Food taboo and dietary habits among low-income people in Kedah, Malaysia

Food beliefs and taboos about certain foods influence the use consumption of food in household. Today, especially rural areas, some people believe affect health. This practice has resulted non-optimized intake categories. As a result, it is not easy to diversify types for daily diet. study aims investigate convictions communities Kedah regarding that may also identified pattern among residents areas State following belief can focuses on State, which include Kubang Pasu, Baling, Pendang, Alor Setar, Kuala Muda districts. A total 225 farmers selected districts were using stratified random sampling. The data analyzed SPSS 25 results. results show low-income have an impact 37.11% coffee, carbonated drinks, fresh milk, low-fat milk cause headaches, stomach aches, heartburn, nausea, followed by 18.66% who admit spicy such as mutton, beef, durian high blood pressure skin problems. taboo overall rate below 29.9 households State. study's findings suggest Malaysian Ministry Health should develop nutrition health awareness programs activities population. At same time, there need comprehensive restructuring curriculum syllabus addressing healthy eating early primary school so be embedded childhood education.
